Manila Now, Now

The big guns all converge inside SMX and some celebs in there too. No one bigger (in terms of stature) than the president herself, GMA. We were invited to come there by one fabric – textile dealer. They gave us truckload of fabric swatches on our way home. (When are we going to use fabric and cushions on our line-up? Soon.)
Manila Now starts today, will run up to Sunday, 7th. For walk-in visitors, there’s a pricey entrance fee of 500. For “trade visitors”, the pre-registered ones, no fees.
Above, There are massive drape-curtain-like scattered inside the exhibit. I believe, these are from Masa-eco. We contacted them once but we found their pricing too high for our market and usage. But google ’em if you’re interested with their goodies.
Above, I saw a lot of furniture makers, using this type of build, small wood blocks forming all sorts of furniture & lamps.
Here’s the official press release from the Office of the President.
Above, I believe this is the only floor show booth pic I got. And this is by… sorry I dunno.
Above, no one is manning the accent jar, so this is another pic we have got.
Another Manila Now entry here.
There were celebs during the first day but the real bida are the furniture pieces and designs. If you are exporter/importer and got bulk(ier) orders, visit the show. They entertain local buyers as well. They do retail too, but most of them, they’ll give the pieces on the last day. If you have preference for world-class makes and you have bucks-to-burn, this is the place to check out some pieces (Light Works -Ligna – Locsin). If you are sucker for lamps, tons of lamps suppliers are in there and the usual suspects are there too.
Or simply, if you love design and the arts, you wont be sorry hanging out there. (There’s a coffee shop at the ground floor inside the hall, far left corner. And there are cafes/kiosks at the lobby too.)
Us, what did we get? How about this? EYP Directory Bag! Envious? Nah, seriously, we ordered lamp shades and console table. And bought handful of back issues magazines that we will not be able touch and read ever coz of the workload we have. For better coverage of Manila Now, please wait for real articles from the real writers and experts. This is our best shot of writing something about Manila Now. Haha.
