Rizal Park features ‘Musical Dancing Fountain’

Posted on | December 26, 2010 |

To attract more tourists to visit the Rizal Park in the heart of Manila City, park administrators have added more ‘attractions’ to the world-renowned park.

First of these are the Rizal Park Musical Dancing Fountain that caught the eye of the curious public and had been wanting to get a taste of its grandeur since its’ inauguration last Dec. 16.

Likewise, the Rizal Park Children’s Playground, which was inaugurated last Dec. 1, has also been one of the Filipino families’ favorite leisure spots, as it offers clean picnic areas, lifelike murals, and enjoyable attractions suited for children at all ages.

Moreover, the parade of gigantic floats showcasing the showbiz personalities involved in the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) has been a favorite of the masses.

Park administrators said they expect thousands of Filipinos to flock to the’Luneta’ to celebrate the holiday season.

Data from the National Parks Development Committee (NPDC) showed that almost 500,000 Filipinos gathered at the park to celebrate Christmas Eve and Christmas day.

According to NPDC executive director Juliet Villegas, it had become the Filipinos’ habit to visit the park in celebration of Christmas and New Year’s Day.

“The big number of people who visited Rizal Park this Christmas Eve has been expected and anticipated by our office. While it has been the tradition of several Filipino families to spend Christmas in Rizal Park, others just opt to stroll around before heading home in time for their Noche Buena,” Villegas noted.

Villegas is also inviting the public to visit and take part in the Rizal Park’s New Year Countdown this coming Dec. 31 by 9 p.m. to celebrate and welcome 2011. Lady Valerie and the Orchestra are expected to perform during the event, topped with brilliant firework displays and an exciting Dance Party for all the guests.

Data also showed that Rizal Park visitors grew to 500,000 this year, or five times more than the 100,000 during the past years.

For his part, NPDC Media Information chief Kenneth Montegrande announced that come January 2011, the Philippine Relief Map, alongside the Japanese and Chinese Gardens, will be revamped and renovated for the public’s leisure.

Meanwhile, the Department of Tourism (DOT) and NPDC’s campaign to maintain the safety and security of the public in Rizal Park has been lauded as a success, as the joint efforts of the Rizal Park Security Forces, the Rizal Park Tourist Police, and the Community Brigade Auxillary took care of the safety and protection of the people in the park.
