Since buying and reading the The Tropical House: Cutting Edge Design in the Philippines with photography by Luca Invernizzi Tettoni, we are now a Luca fan. Anything done or with Luca in it, we’ll grab it. The next time a book about banana-Q comes out with photographs by Senor Tettoni, we will buy that too!

And so we bought this awesome book last weekend… Filipino Style. Not only is this a crash course of – where the “Flipino Style” came from – what are its influences – how the Filipino style evolves – and – what the future holds, but also, it’s a book with touches of history of the Philippines and its heritage and super-rich culture.

  • The analogy with sinigang is the awesomest
  • Fabulous wood crafts, furniture, traditional Filipino interiors, etc.
  • As with other aspects of Filipino culture, church played a big role too in shaping Philippine architecture, crafts and furniture
  • Great text and photography
  • The topic of the Filipino Style, embracing modernity

Product Description

After centuries of absorbing international influences, the Philippines’ architecture draws upon the Americas, Europe and Southeast Asia to create a style all its own. Adjusting these ideas to a tropical environment, Filipino designers have created a bold aesthetic. Filipino Style gives an overview of the traditional Filipino house, the influence of foreign cultures, the environment’s importance to home design, and finally the embrace of modernity. Insightful and beautifully photographed, Filipino Style provides wonderful design ideas from this lush island archipelago.
