Book: Tools and technique, handyman club library
Posted on | February 28, 2010 |
From the intro… “If you were allowed only one home reference book in your library, this might well be the volume to choose. From tool use and basic woodworking tips to plumbing, wiring and metalworking, you’ll find a little bit of everything in this book.”
What’s nice about this Hand Tools & Techniques (Handyman Club Library) is that, this is made by handymen themselves from years and years of experience. First chapter briefly but adequately covers where it all starts, the workshop. The layout, power tools, workflow, organization, etc. Detailed sections of measuring, cutting, drilling, shaping, fastening, sanding and finishing are included. Not dealt thoroughly however is the painting and finishes.
Second chapter covers the slippery world of plumbing. I haven’t read this section yet but I’m sure I will. I need to learn how to deal with that troublesome u-trap beneath the kitchen sink!
Finally, an energizing section ends the book, electrical wiring. Basic projects, safety and repair were covered.
Despite the thoughtful presentation of the topics and the clear color illustrations and photos given, its still up to the worker, the handyman, the hobbyist as to what the result of the projects will turn out to be. Skill, judgment, safety and caution are all factors. This book is just a basic guide as what tools and materials are needed and how things are done.
