Fewer babies are named IKEA now, some reasons?
Posted on | August 12, 2010 |
This stat came as a surprise.
I would think, moooooms who are IKEA furniture store fans are likely to name their babies “Ikea.” In the US, in 2007 to 2009, each year, fewer than 5 used the name Ikea for their babies. But compared back when Ikea was in its early years in the US, babies named Ikea peaked at 72 (1989). Then, as people learned about Ikea home products and as more and more Ikea furniture stores popped out, the use of the name went south. See the stat here.
Probable reasons?
- Maybe they just don’t like the name of their babies be associated with flat pack furniture or home products.
- Maybe Americans just like to name their babies Jacob, Ethan, Michael, Joe for boys and Isabella, Emma, Hanna for girls. See here.
- Maybe they are afraid a chubby kid with nickname “Ike” is just so not right.
- Maybe americans don’t want the kid having a Japanese sounding name or Scandinavian origin.
- Maybe they are afraid Ikea might sue them. Ikea have won numerous cases against other parties using Ikea™, it’s likeness or even close to its likeness (or even “soundness”).
- Maybe they are opting for Leo Que instead. I don’t know.
