Bahay na bato
Posted on | August 23, 2010 |
A real stone house (bahay na bato). Actually made mainly of 2 big rocks, linked together by concrete/masonry/stones to form the house. Compared to the traditional Filipino “house of stone“, this is THE real bahay na bato in purest form. We’re still waiting word if Barok & Tartan are interested in acquiring this Portuguese prop.
This featured house pretty much sayin’ “bring on the storm”. Speaking of which, this particular house is in Portugal, the closest thing that we can see this kind of houses in the Philippines would be in Batanes. There, being typhoon highway, houses have thick walls, heavy thick cogon top and small door/window openings. (Updated – ah yes, here. And while we are at it, check this Arch Jose Ignacio rich-in-info pdf paper – “Challenges in preserving the heritage houses of Batanes, Philippines”)
