Negrense inventors, designers invited to join Regional Invention Contest

DUMAGUETE CITY, June 14 (PIA) — The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is inviting inventors and researchers from public and private sectors in Negros Oriental to join the Regional Invention Contest on August 17 to 19, 2011 at the Ayala Activity Center in Cebu City.
The invention contest serves as the qualifying round for the National Invention Contest pursuant to Section 4 of the Republic Act No. 7459 known as “Inventors and Invention Incentives Act of the Philippines.”
The contest is open to all inventors, makers, designers, and creative researchers who are Filipino citizens residing in the region.
There six categories wherein inventors can compete, namely: Invention Category (Tuklas Award); Utility Model Category; Industrial Design Category; Creative Research Category (Likha Award); Student Creative Research Category (Sibol Award) for High School; and Student Creative Research Category (Sibol Award) for College.
Each regional qualifier per category will receive a cash incentive and certificate of recognition. He or she will also be the region’s representative to the National Invention Contest.
Interested participants in Negros Oriental may secure entry forms at and likewise submit them to the DOST Provincial Science and Technology Center in Yakal Street, Daro, Dumaguete City (near the former Daro Satellite Market) on or before July 27, 2011.
