Zamboanga International Airport Design Contest

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and the Regional Development Council (RDC-9), will conduct an interior design contest for the improvement and upgrading of Zamboanga International Airport.
The contest was conceptualized during the Problem-Solving Session conducted by RDC-9’s Committee on Regional Project Monitoring (RPMC) in September, last year.
The contest, which is also in collaboration with the local government of Zamboanga, the Department of Tourism, Western Mindanao State University-College of Architecture, and the three major airline companies operating in the city, Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific and Air Philippines, will center on the cultural character of the city and the region.
The contest’s main objective is to come up with a master plan or blue print of the airport terminal interior for consideration by Department of Transportation and Communication in future improvement of the airport. The contest will specifically focus on portfolio of the proposed interior design of Check-In, Pre-departure, mezzanine, to include food court, recreational business center and breast feeding or toddlers’ corner, in accordance to Gender and Development policy, and arrival areas.
The contest is open to all interested licensed architects and interior designers in the city and neighboring cities and provinces.
For interested participants, a registration form can be secured at CAAP-Zamboanga Int’l Airport starting May 15, the launching of the contest. Each contestant should submit a Computer Aided Drafting Design (CADD) or any computer generated -drawing of floor plans and interior designs, highlighting the four areas mentioned above. It should be mounted on a 20”x30” illustration board. Deadline of submission is on June 28, 2012. A soft copy of the design should also be submitted in a compact disk (CD).
Criteria for the contest include creativity and originality (40 percent), presentation (20 percent), relevance to the city and region (30 percent) and passengers’ choice (10 percent).
The designs will be short listed, with the board of judges selecting the best designs, on July 6. All designs in the short list will be displayed at the pre-departure area for the passengers to select the best design through balloting which will be given after paying their terminal fees. The final judging will be sometime in August, although no specific date yet on the announcement of the winners.
First prize winner of the interior design contest will take home two international round trip tickets to Manila-Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, and back to Manila, two domestic round trips from Zamboanga to Manila and back, and P30,000 cash prize (inclusive of travel tax/fees). Second place will win one international trip ticket to Manila-Hong Kong-Manila route, one domestic roundtrip from here to Manila, and back, with P20,000 cash. Third place winner will bag one round trip ticket to any destination, and a P5,000 cash prize.
A consolation prize of P2,000 each for three succeeding non-winning entries will also be given.
