Filipino Culture Preserved in Vintage Images

Local authors Tyrone Lim and Dolly Pangan-Specht and Arcadia Publishing present Filipinos in the Willamette Valley, the newest addition to the popular Images of America Series. Boasting over 200 vintage images, Filipinos in the Willamette Valley showcases the arrival of the early Filipinos in the Willamette Valley and chronicles the progression of their culture in the area.
The beginning of the 20th century saw the entrance of Filipinos into the valley, arriving from vegetable farms in California and Washington, fish canneries in Alaska, and from the pineapple and sugar plantations in Hawaii. At the same time, the I.S. territorial government in the Philippines started sponsoring Filipino students, beginning in 1903, to study in the United States.

Custom furniture manufacturer Pacific Hospitality Design Inc. of Commerce, Calif., is walking the walk of its philosophy and business value: to strongly encourage moral integrity and aid in being the change they want to see in the world. Over the last few months, the company has been actively engaged in servicing the needs of a struggling society. In June, PHDesign sent its designer and R&D specialist, Naomi Stroh, to Haiti to assist those living in the aftermath of the earthquake.

In its 43rd year, the Philippine School of Interior Design (PSID) proudly showcases “Caleidoscope,” the graduation exhibit of the PSID Advanced Class of 2010, which runs from Oct. 3 to 31 at the Athena Building, Eastwood City, Libis, Quezon City. In cooperation with Eastwood City, “Caleidoscope” focuses on the four C’s: color, character, cause and cost, design elements that challenged the batch to create 18 classy and creative interiors that are cost-efficient as well.
