Stanley Furniture and Coastal Living Magazine Launch Resort-Inspired Furniture Collection

Posted on | September 15, 2010 |

Stanley Furniture Company, a leader in the design and manufacture of premium residential wood furnishings, and Coastal Living Magazine, have joined forces once again – this time to introduce an all-new collection that is reminiscent of escaping to one of America’s acclaimed seaside resorts.

Two years ago Stanley Furniture and Coastal Living teamed up to introduce the first Coastal Living collection, this one modeled on a distinctive “cottage” look. The original venture was focused on traditional styling – Shaker, Sheraton, Hepplewhite – interpreted through a casual lens. Inspired by the carefree, diverse lifestyles of America’s coasts, Coastal Living Cottage included multiple style options available in 15 different colors and finishes, organized into three distinct color palettes – Sea Glass, Pastel and Americana.

After a first successful introduction, Stanley Furniture and Coastal Living have collaborated again to create another generation of the Coastal Living Collection.

“Our analysis of decorating trends shows us that cleaner-lined, casual contemporary furniture is penetrating the market,” said Adam Tilley, Stanley Furniture’s VP of Product Management. “Focusing on this style in combination with elements such as rustic metal finishes, driftwood tones and a variety of textures will be a great complement to our business and a welcomed addition to the marketplace.”

According to Tilley, the new Coastal Living Resort collection brings a contemporary sophistication to the coastal look. “This group effortlessly balances the breezy simplicity of shore life and the understated elegance of a five-star hotel. It’s old and new, laid back and sophisticated, casual and elegant … all at the very same time,” said Tilley.

Debuting during the Fall 2010 High Point Furniture Pre-Market, Coastal Living Resort focuses on a clean-lined, casual contemporary style with a marriage of mixed media elements and an array of wood tone options for every room of the home.

“Weathered driftwood, burnished boat fittings, louvered shutters and coral and seagrass serve as inspiration for this new rendering of the Coastal Living Collection,” said Tilley. “Box cases on antique pewter stands lend an industrial vibe, while woven water hyacinth and coral matelasse’ upholstery keep it firmly rooted in nature.”

White oak veneers and hardwood solids work with heavy distressing and muted, grain-baring finishes and paint colors to complement the collection’s natural contemporary look. Six nature-inspired paints, one light and dark-toned stain option and two unique accent finishes offer consumers the freedom of a mix-and-match palette without overwhelming with too many options.

Blending a transitional cottage look with sophisticated contemporary lines, Coastal Living Resort features a number of design details that help to convey the collection’s look and feel of casual elegance. Some of these details include proud drawer fronts, shaped tops, contemporary stretchers, a maritime-inspired X-motif and tarnished steel pulls and knobs modeled after various nautical elements.

“The trick with any new effort is to live up to the expectations set up by the original,” said Stanley Furniture’s President and CEO, Glenn Prillaman. “Oftentimes in the our industry, round 2 dilutes round 1. It’s too close to the original, so you don’t expand market share. With Coastal Living Resort, we feel confident that we’ve taken the right design steps with the right licensing partner to re-ignite our customer base and expand our floor presence.”

“We’re excited to have the opportunity to collaborate with Stanley Furniture again,” said Heather Chadduck, Style Director for Coastal Living Magazine. “The Coastal Living Resort collection represents the casual but sophisticated style for which both brands are known.”

The Coastal Living Resort collection is scheduled to begin shipping to retailers in late December. For more information, visit www.stanleycoastalliving.com.
