Ilocos Norte capitol to switch on green energy

Posted on | January 13, 2011 |

LAOAG CITY, Jan.12 (PIA) – The provincial capitol will soon convert to green energy using energy efficient led lights in its various offices.

Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos said the use of led lights in various provincial government buildings will reduce power consumption costs.

“We are undertaking efforts to observe green energy so that we can truly say that Ilocos Norte is home to renewable energy,” she said in reference to the wind power plant in Bangui town which has been generating clean energy since 2004.

The use of led lights will be implemented in the Capitol building and provincial hospital including the provincial government-owned Ilocos Norte Hotel and Convention Center.

Capitol started using the energy-saving light during the Holidays when it mounted led droplights on the Capitol’s façade.

“Not only is it environmentally sound, we will also cut cost. The province is paying up P.6 million in power bills,” the governor added.

Meanwhile, the provincial government is set to mark Ilocos Norte’s 103rd founding anniversary on February 2.

Marcos said the event will make way for the launching of the province’s green program with the planting of trees along the national highway traversing at least 13 towns from Badoc in the South to Pagudpud in the North.

The tree-planting activity will be a concerted effort among town mayors, village officials and non-government organizations.

Other events include the inauguration of the legislative and executive offices at the Capitol’s western and eastern wings.

Marcos said the various Capitol offices will be opened to the public who would want to observe how government transactions are handled.

“If you want to know how the provincial government works, this is the day to learn how laws are passed, how taxes are imposed,” she said. (Cristina Arzadon – PIA Ilocos Norte)
