Buy veggie noodles, waterlily and bamboo OTOP projects

Posted on | January 6, 2012 |

The Department of Trade and Industry-Region 3 (DTI-3) is encouraging the public to buy its veggie noodles, and waterlily and bamboo One Town One Product (OTOP) projects to better promote entrepreneurship and create jobs specifically in Central Luzon.

According to the DTI, veggie noodles are affordable and health alternative food items with high fiber contents, enriched with vitamins and minerals from natural ingredients.

Waterlilies, when processed and handmade into bags, placemats, slippers, baskets, souvenir items, and the like are in demand in local and export markets.

Engineered bamboo or bamboo “wood” processing and production, on the other hand, has great potential in local and export markets for furniture-making and as a construction material.

The said projects were developed through the collaborative efforts of DTI as the lead agency, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) as supporting agencies.

These products will be marketed in Region III at the Diosdado Macapagal Government Center (DMGC), this city.

DTI will formulate a marketing plan to expand the market base of these OTOP products.

The trade department launched the OTOP Program to encourage the growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the countryside through the development of indigenous raw materials, and local skills and talents.

Through OTOP, local chief executives take the lead in the identification, development, and promotion of a specific product or service over which a particular Philippine town has a competitive advantage in terms of job and income generation.

It offers a comprehensive assistance package on business counseling, skills and entrepreneurial training, product design and development, appropriate technologies, and marketing through the convergence of services from Local Government Units (LGUs), national government agencies (NGAs), and the private sector.
